  • La Fontainne

one thing about living in an expat flooded city like HK is ... people arrive and leave all the time.  so you spend all this time developing a friendship with someone and two years later they leave (or you leave) and you never hear from them again... which is sad but keeping in touch via sporatic emails is just not the same as grabbing someone for breaks any time, cracking instant jokes with them over Sametime (chat program), or throwing soft toys at them over the cubicle when you need to vent.

and you wonder why my circle of friends changes constantly

  • I can relate... I think people coming and going is not only due to the dynamic nature of Hong Kong, but also because of our age group... People are still developing their roots, and there are fewer reasons, i.e. kids to keep people in one place.  This is especially true for people that have moved away from their hometown... I experience the same thing living in the city of Chicago.

BTW, as for a recent movie recommendation, try watching Tarantino's Kill Bill.  Some might find it too violent, but b/c the violence is so over the top, it isn't realistic... instead it is comical.  The mixture of black white and anime was a nice touch as well.  Another comedy / drama that I really enjoyed was Matchstick Men... it had great story line, was funny, and contained great acting from Cage and Rockwell (an underrated actor).
