  • my life is dictated by usernames and passwords

just this morning, in order to get to my xanga page, i had to punch in 3 passwords.  the first to unlock my computer, the second to get access to external (non-company) sites on my web browser and the third to log into xanga.  three!

i can't even keep track of how many accounts and passwords i have in total - i have to log on to buy groceries, movie tickets (2 accounts), check phone bill, do internet banking, post blogs, organize photos online (4 account), use bloomberg, read the news (6 accounts), check mileage (at least 4, i've really lost track). oh yes, and there's friendster, linked-in, taking-it-global, Ringo, evite

i can go on and go but you get the picture.  and since i've had the idea ingrained in me that you need a different password to match each username, i find myself frequently sitting in front of my computer, scratching my head, randomly guessing username/password combinations for sites i don't log on to as often

yes yes, my fault for signing up for so many accounts, but i'd argue that most of them were created out of necessity.  i need groceries.  i need money.  i need to blog

seriously though, have we taken internet security a bit too far? i mean, why would anyone want to hack into my parknshop account to see what groceries i'm buying?  and it's not like my credit card details are saved on the site anyway

the internet is designed to make things more convenient (everything's at your fingertips!), faster, and more personalized.  but have we back-fired on our attempts if it takes 5 extra steps to get what we want?

  • organise your passwords. have one for non-secure/important sites (ie the ones that you don't have your credit information) and then have a couple for the others. you'd be surprised what people hack (try guestbooks, wtf right?) but security's become a huge issue in the internet world since so many people are using it the evil way.

i can't believe you fall asleep during old school and swingers, i mean how?????
