  • Measure of success

at din tonight, i was rambling on about how HK buyers suck and shopping
in New York is generally so much better when my mom put her hand on me
arm, looked all proud and said "my daughter's updating her wardrobe in
New York!" (prob an exaggeration, though i did buy so much we had to
borrow a suitcase from p's mom to carry all the new stuff)

I guess to my mom, me flying to New York and "updating my wardrobe"
there implies that she has managed to raised a financially-secure
offspring... a measure of success.  of course that's also because
she's never seen my credit card statements

I thought it was awfully cute, the few minutes when she was patting her
own back for good parenting.  so long as she's happy i s'ppose
